Twyla Tharp, smart lady, dancer and choreographer extraordinaire once said that creativity was a habit. She also said that creativity was an act of defiance. She also said that people will laugh at creativity… so you just need to get over it.
The more I think about those statements the more I realize they are totally true. Think about it, creativity is (more often than not), totally, utterly, and completely in the eye of the beholder.
What I mean is, what might be creative to someone is totally weird to someone else. Think about art, for example. What some people think is this innovative, unique work of art, others may see it as a piece of wood with paint on it. But the person who created it feels like he / she was being creative.
This blog, for example, is a HUGE creative outlet for me. I try new things all the time… and while some people see it as just me “putting on clothes and posting pictures of myself on the internet” – I totally feel it is me expressing my creative juices.
I’m constantly trying new things, new styles, new projects, new ventures… because at the end of the day, I’m trying to feel and be creative.
But how does that make it a habit?
Is creativity actually a habit? Or is it just something you do?
Well, when I think about the word habit, I think of an addiction… I think of being addicted to or obsessing over a particular habit. And for me, creativity is totally something I feel addicted to. Because if I’m not being creative and I’m in some sort of rut, I feel totally out of my element.
Not everything is a home run and not everything is going to be a success… but I realize the more I push myself and the more I work out those creative juices on a regular basis (even if it’s NOT something to do with fashion, per se…)… the more I feel like I’m improving and getting better at what I am doing… whatever it is I am doing.
Yeah, I’m totally trying to make jumping pics my “thing” – haha!!! Why NOT have fun with it? 🙂
And yeah, people are probably going to laugh at me along the way… and frankly, I don’t care. Let ’em laugh, I say. Be yourself… because YOU are awesome.
What about you? Do you agree or disagree? Do you think creativity is a habit?
Oh ich liebe den rock
Every single jumping picture is hands down my favorite. They’re too cute and you look so happy in them! Creativity is a habit in the way that you can break or create a habit. I think it’s in everyone, but not everyone learns how to use it or put it to work in their lives. It’s more of a learned habit in my opinion.
Obsessed with this outfit, and your jumping pictures!!
xo,
Angela
Your makeup looks absolutely gorgeous in these photos! What is the brand and shade of your lipstick?
This might just be one of my favorite outfits that you’ve ever worn. You look fabulous.
I’m really crushing on your bag, shoes, vest and hair. Can you have that sent over?
I love your jumping pics!! Go girl! My daughter is a very creative minded girl. She is a dancer, loves to write, paint, etc. It is something she was born with. I am not sure I would consider her creativity to be a habit – it seems more like just who she is. It will be fun to watch your Lily develop her own little creative sparks(: Susan
aw thanks susan! and i agree – i love watching Lilly’s creativity grow!
