Right now Lilly’s favorite book is Fancy Nancy. She is obsessed. Her third birthday party was “Fancy Nancy” themed. The premise of the book is this little girl just wants to be fancy and she wants her family to be fancy so she uses fancy words and speaks in French and adds frilly toothpicks to her sandwiches. You get the gist…
Anyway, the other day, I was wearing this outfit and she said, “Mommy, I like all your purpley clothes.” I was like, “Thank you, baby! It’s called monochromatic. That’s a fancy word for when something is all in the same color family.” And Lilly’s mind was blown… because, I mean, it’s JUST LIKE Fancy Nancy. Or something.
Random story that doesn’t really have a point other than the fact that I have to laugh at myself teaching my three-year-old words like monochromatic. Because, obviously that’s a word she’ll use a ton in her life.
In any event, I absolutely LOVE monochromatic outfits (when done right) because it’s easy and I can work with pieces in the same color palette, but dress them up or break them up with jewelry, bags, shoes, etc.
This top from TOBI has been a FAVORITE of late. I love the mauvey color, I love how soft it is, I love show flowy it is, I love how I can wear it with denim or leggings, and I love that it’s made in the USA! Win, win, win!
What about you? Do you like monochromatic looks? Do you think it’s overdone or something that’s classic and will stick around for years?
