Rafikis
You guys, Happy Thursday! So, my husband and I leave for our mission trip to Kenya two weeks from today. Ohmygoshweleavein14days. I just REALLY realized that as I type this.
I am so excited to get back to Kenya it’s crazy. I can’t wait to love on those people. Seriously. And I can’t wait to lead the team with my husband.
Well, the truth is, John and I could not have made this mission happen if it weren’t for some pretty amazing people in our lives. We had so many of our family, friends, and total strangers donate to our trip and it seriously was so humbling.
In addition, I have had some pretty amazing lady bloggers support my trip by sponsoring the blog. So, I want to introduce you to just a few of them today 🙂 (there are a few more that you’ll meet soon!) Let’s call them my rafikis. You know, cause rafiki means friend in Swahili.
[MEET LINDSAY of Domesticated Working Woman]
1. How would you describe your style?
My style is confident. Let me explain. I wear anything that makes me feel confident. I don’t follow trends simply because they are currently trending and I don’t feel compelled to look like a magazine model. I wear clothing that makes me feel good inside and out. I lean toward classic pieces and throw in some trendy pieces as I go. I definitely try to make a statement with my style, but I don’t necessarily want it to define me. My goal is to use it to enhance my inner beauty.
2. What is your biggest pet peeve?
My weirdest pet peeve is walking outside after it rains. I’m petrified of worms. I know it is absolutely absurd, but I have nightmares over the stupid little wiggly things. So after it rains, I’m literally walking on my tiptoes, eyes down to the ground, like I’ve had too many glasses of wine to avoid stepping on one.
3. If you could have any super power what would it be?
If I could have any super power, it would be to teleport. Is that a super power? I want to be able to teleport because I live so far away from my family and I want to be able to see them any time I want. I could go home, give my mom and dad a hug, and be back in time to iron my man’s shirts.
4. You have the choice to live with a squirrel who cites poetry or an elephant that gives great massages, which do you choose?
At first I thought, squirrel because a massage from an elephant can’t feel good. Then, I remembered that awesome trunk they have and I’m pretty sure that thing could work wonders after a long run. Plus, I’m not a huge fan of rodents. Dumbo it is!
5. Why should someone read your blog?
Someone should read my blog because I have a lot to say. After all, I teach middle school. I’m bound to have good stories. It’s kinda like my adult conversation for the day…after dealing with 8th graders for hours. My blog is my creative outlet where I get to share the things I’m most passionate about: teaching, health&fitness, fashion, and believing. My desire is to share my heart in each post and to give people someone to relate to. I am a warm, loving, optimistic person and sometimes we just don’t have enough of that in our lives so I try to give people a place to come and receive it.

[MEET JAMIE of The Blue Hour]
1. How would you describe your style?
All over the place!!! I like so many different things and I have all different styles of clothes. I have no idea how to define my style. Sometimes my style is classic, or preppy, some days I’m trendy, other days feminine. And, occasionally, my style could even be described as bad. But I’m learning to make better style choices through blogging so my style is bad much less often!
2. When you’re in a movie theater, which arm rest is yours?
Well, if I’m going with friends, I usually go with the left, because I rest my arm on it while I hold my popcorn – since I’m right handed it just works out that way. But if I’m going with my hubby, the one farthest away from him. He’s a big dude and his broad shoulders always invade my space when we sit next to each other, no matter where we’re sitting. That’s why I always get stuck with the middle seat on airplanes – so his massive shoulders only bother me instead of both me and the person on his other side. Try not to be jealous. You know the middle seat is the most coveted in each row.
3. If you had a snail that could magically grant wishes, what would you name it?
Lamp. Because a genie that grants wishes would, theoretically, come out of a lamp. And if I named it Lamp, I could look at it and say “I love Lamp.”
4. You have the choice to live with a hippopotamus who knows sign language or a wildebeest who sings lullabies, which do you choose?
Um, no question I’ll take the wildebeest. First of all, they’re so ugly they’re almost cute. Secondly, I love singing. Thirdly, they’re not overly aggressive. Hippos are one of the most aggressive animals out there so I’d be scared I’d be doomed to death with one of them in my house. Plus if a hippo’s doing sign language, he’s bound to break everything in my house with his giant flailing body.
5. Why should someone read your blog?
I would like to think someone should read my blog because of my winning personality, fabulous writing, and amazing photos, but only 2 out of the 3 of those would be true. So you should come over to my blog to figure out which ones are!

[MEET ANNA of Anna K Photography]
1. How would you describe your style of photography?
I would say that my style is lite and full of love! When I see an image that genuinely captures my couples love for each other, my heart skips a beat.
2. What is your biggest pet peeve?
It drives me nuts when people smack their food! I know that probably isn’t the strangest pet peeve ever, but honestly not very many things bother me. My parents were hardcore when it came manners at the dinner table and smacking was a huge no no!
3. If you could have any super power what would it be?
Molly, this is a hard one! I would probably want to have the ability to become invisible. Not to spy or anything like that, but so that I could sneak into really cool places when they are closed or go for a walk at night and not get scared (I’ve watched entirely to many crime shows)!
4. You have the choice to live with a squirrel who cites poetry or an elephant that gives great massages, which do you choose?
I would live with an elephant that gives great massages any day! I am a cuddly person by nature so a massage every now and again would make me one happy girl!
5. Why should someone read your blog?
Another hard one! Hmmmmmm….. I hope that when people read my blog they feel connected to me and my passion for others. If they are photographers starting out I hope that they are inspired to keep moving forward. I write about my life, not just photography and I hope that others find encouragement in my words.

[MEET AMBER of Searching for a Destination Unknown]
(side note, I love Amber… cause she is actually a sorority sister of mine… SO, that makes her extra fabulous :))
1. How would you describe your style?
I’m a 29 year old fabulous female just trying to figure this world out one day at a time. I currently live in DC, but I have lived in Germany and England among other places throughout my life. I hope to continue my globetrotting in the future!
2. What is your biggest pet peeve?
I have so many its hard to pick just one. I have to have my shampoo bottle on the left, conditioner in the middle, and soap on the right. Its in order in which I use them. I get very irate if someone switches them! I know I’m weird, that’s how I roll.
3. If you could have any super power what would it be?
I would want to wiggle my nose like Samantha from Betwitched and magically transport anywhere.
4. You have the choice to live with a squirrel who cites poetry or an elephant that gives great massages, which do you choose?
Definitely the elephant. Who wouldn’t want to live with someone who gave good massages? As long as he doesn’t squish me while doing it.
5. Why should someone read your blog?
To get random ramblings of a girl who lives in DC and loves to travel and experience new things!
