Red + White {Valentine’s Day + Date Night Style}
I know that around these parts I wear jeans and what’s comfortable most of the time (especially right now). But, I wanted to prove that I do get gussied up every now and then. 🙂
When husband and I stayed at the Fearrington Inn this past weekend, we went to an AMAZING dinner at the Fearrington House Restaurant. It was a 3-4 course meal, and although I couldn’t pronounce pretty much anything I ate, it was AMAZING and SO good.
Plus, with Valentine’s Day quickly approaching (nine days!) I thought some of y’all might like some outfit inspiration.
Now, I’ve had this red silk dress in my closet for at least five years and I never wear it. I got it randomly for like $10 from the Banana Republic outlet back in early 2008 and have always had trouble styling it. It’s just a boxier dress and so I always felt shapeless in it when I wore it.
Well, the loose style is PERFECT right now to mask my baby belly and make me feel feminine at the same time. Plus, by adding the blazer, it gave the dress that structure I needed. 🙂
Snapped a photo in the room before we left.

And because I have no shame, I had to include this blooper photo of me and my husband: {{Blazer: Forever 21
{{Dress: Banana Republic Outlet (old, similar here)
{{Shoes: Target
{{Bag: Valentino (bought in Italy six years ago, I drool over this one though).
What about you? What’s your go-to date night style? Do you have any “fancier” pieces in your closet that you have trouble styling?
You look gorgeous!!! I love that last photo haha! Which Nikon model do you have? Have you ever filmed a vlog or videos with it? I have a D7000 and I’m having trouble with the autofocus in my videos! It’s so loud and so slow!
haha thank you so much, niki!! i actually use a clunky old Nikon D40, but I invested in a good lens. the camera doesn’t take video – I use an HD Flip Camera for videos 🙂
that dress is beautiful! and $10? what a great find! how fun to go to such a fancy dinner!!
Thank you so much, katie!
The last picture is my fave! Love your dress. . .

Aww thank you so much, Anna Elizabeth!
That is the perfect romantic maternity dress. 🙂 I still have several dresses in that style that I belt now but am saving for whenever we get ready to have a second little one. Honestly very little of my maternity wardrobe was actually maternity pieces. (Why are maternity clothes so expensive anyway?)
I know! I’m struggling with that too – some maternity clothes are crazy expensive.
You are so sweet, and I love the blooper picture hahaha! (I think my date night go to is a sweet dress, killer heels and cute clutch.. makes me want to have a date night soon just talking about it!)
aw thank you so much, vanessa!!
Beautiful! That’s a great color on you!
Seriously love that handbag, too.

What a gorgeous dress. I love the one shoulder detail!
thank you so much, lauren!
Love that dress! You are so very pretty in it. We RARELY do fancy things but I do have a few things in my closet on the off chance I need them. I try to keep them simple though so I don’t have to think too hard when we have somewhere important to be.
oh i know exactly what you mean! thank you so much, lindsay!
You look STUNNING, Molly. I think red is definitely your color! And a four-course meal sounds like my kind of heaven!
thank you so much, alyssa! 🙂

Love the outfit. You wear it well. All I really have are fancy or close to fancy going out clothes. I’ve just now gotten to wear I’m comfortable wearing dresses, but I need for it get warmer.
thank you so much, shawn!
Molly, this dress looks AMAZING on you. I learned early on that you never get rid of clothing, you never know when it will be perfect to wear!!
thank you so much, rebecca!
Love that dress! You’re right, loose dresses are the perfect thing for your current stage. Dresses and tights were my favorite (until it got so darn cold up here)!
oh yeah! i am ALL ABOUT some dresses!
