BEAUTY | DIY Lip Exfoliator & Sugar Scrub
If you’re anything like me, the second the cold weather starts, your lips turn to a hot, chapped mess. Seriously. I can’t put more chap stick on fast enough.
And, as my lips get more chapped, the skin gets dry (gross, I know) and it becomes a vicious cycle of… I don’t even know. You get what I’m saying.
Anyway. I used to use this lip exfoliator and sugar scrub back in the day from Mary Kay, but they stopped making it. And, well, it was pricey.
So, I took to making one on my own. I know there are about 1,000 different DIY lip scrub “recipes” out there, but this one is a twist on those and I put a little of my own spin on it and so far I’m LOVING it.
Here’s what I did:
DIY Lip Exfoliator & Sugar Scrub
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon of white sugar
- 1.5 teaspoons of coconut oil (I use this stuff on EVERYTHING… including my baby’s bum in lieu of diaper rash cream. BOOM.)
- 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1-2 drops of red food coloring (optional)
- 1 empty container (I used one I found lying around my bathroom)
STEP ONE: add 2 tablespoons of coarse brown sugar
STEP TWO: add 1.5 teaspoons of coconut oil
STEP THREE: add 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract
STEP FIVE: add 1-2 drops of red food coloring (optional)
STEP SIX: add 1 tablespoon of white sugar
STEP SEVEN: mix it up real nice and good! 🙂
STEP EIGHT: you’re done!
Now, what I do is take a little bit and rub it all over my lips for about 30 seconds and then I wash it off with warm water and follow it up by adding some Vaseline or other chap stick.
And yes, you will want to eat this lip scrub. It smells delish.
What about you? What do you do to combat chapped / dry lips in the wintertime? Will you try this lip scrub? Do you have a recipe for one you love?
can you use something other than coconut oil?
I actually just did an updated scrub recipe that doesn’t have coconut oil in it. Here you go: http://www.stillbeingmolly.com/2015/01/12/diy-all-natural-scrub/
Hope that helps!!
I was wondering if the dye would dye lips.?
Like if I used blue food coloring. .
Would it dye mi lips blue.? Lol
I would think that it would… but i’m not 100% sure
Thanks(:
Great post! How long is its shelf life? Was thinking of making some of these for gifts

About 3 months or so 🙂
Do you find the vanilla extract to dry your lips due to the alcohol content? Thank you.
great question!! i haven’t found that to be the case at least for me…
Is it okay to throw it in the microwave for a few seconds if the coconut oil won’t break up?
I just made an updated recipe without coconut oil… hope this helps! http://www.stillbeingmolly.com/2015/01/12/diy-all-natural-scrub/

I use Satin Lips by Mary Kay (they do still make it!). I use it all year but much more frequently in the winter. This looks delicious, I mean like a great exfoliator! I will definitly try it. 🙂
