Embracing Childhood
There are times when I feel like I’m blinking and life is just flashing before my eyes. Here I am, looking at my beautiful, smart, hilarious little girl… and she’s about to be a big sister. I realize it’s the most cliche thing to say, but it really does feel like yesterday that she was born. But here we are. One of the things I’m so desperately trying to cling onto is the pure innocence and joy and zest she has for life. I just don’t want her growing up too soon. There are so many things in this life that can wait – and I just want to help her embrace and enjoy her childhood as much as possible.
I think back to my childhood – and even though it wasn’t THAT long ago, the world I grew up in is so vastly different than the world Lilly and our future children will grow up in.
I just love encouraging her to do and try so many different things. I want her to feel free to explore and run and chase and play and twirl and spin and dance and sing. I want her to do all those amazing things that are so fun and joyful… like play in the dirt, swing on the swings, roll in the grass… I want her to play sports if she wants to play sports. I want her to dance if she wants to dance.
And it’s so awesome to watch her do things on her own that I know I did as a kid… things that aren’t taught… they’re just innate. For example, when I was little, I LOVED playing dresses and, more importantly, I was OBSESSED with wearing dresses that spin and twirl. In fact, when a good dress was really flowy, I had a word for it… it was “turnnel.”
Lilly does the EXACT same thing. The moment she puts a dress on that is flowy and twirls, she comes ALIVE. She just runs around and spins and it’s awesome to watch her dance. It’s one of her favorite things.
As I’ve mentioned before, I consign A LOT of Lilly’s clothes and also get a lot of hand-me-downs, but every now and then, I love to invest in something that’s JUST for her – something that’s new and unique and beautiful. And when I come across that perfect twirly, spinny dress… I can’t help but get it for her. Little Skye Kids’ Boutique Clothing is pretty much the PERFECT place to find the most unique, beautiful, special, dresses and skirts for that precious little girl in your life. It’s ESPECIALLY great for unique holiday dresses for girls!
When I saw this absolutely adorable feather dress (that’s the perfect amount of swirly and twirly) from Paper Wings clothing, I knew Lilly would just adore it. And adore it, she does. Oh, and not to mention that it has POCKETS. Lilly is also obsessed with POCKETS. Anything that has pockets.
But watching the sweet, pure, innocent joy on her face when she puts on something as simple as a beautiful dress, it just reminds me to slow down and remember what’s important and what matters – spending time with her and enjoying childhood.

I 100% agree!
This is so sweet! It’s so easy to forget what it was like to be a kid and see the joy in everything. I try to remember that in little moments now and again!

I can so relate. It really is truly amazing how quickly time goes by when you have a little one. This dress is so darling on Lilly. I can tell how much she loves it!
