I’m all about simplicity these days, especially when it comes to doing my makeup and my hair. Now, that doesn’t mean that I don’t love to get all “glammed” up every now and again! But, when I can get both a little glammed up AND do it in a simple way, that’s when I feel like I’m WINNING.
We’ve got a busy holiday season coming up between Christmas and New Year’s Eve (I mean, who doesn’t?)… lots of travel and holiday parties and time with family. So, I love coming up with simple, easy-to-achieve, and beautiful makeup looks that fit for any occasion.
I love sharing makeup tutorials (mostly because I LOVE reading and watching makeup tutorials… haha!) and so I had a lot of fun playing around with this holiday plum-inspired makeup look using all NEUTROGENA cosmetics. I’ve used NEUTROGENA makeup for years (I love that it doesn’t make me break out or irritate my skin!) and so I headed to Walmart to get all the accoutrements. 🙂
I wanted to come up with a holiday look that was a little different than the traditional gold or silver eyes with red lips. So, instead, I took the inspiration of the deep plum colors of the season to do a plum and pink-hued look that is wearable, but also perfect for a holiday or New Year’s Eve party.
I used a total of five NEUTROGENA products in this tutorial! Talk about simplicity… 🙂
Here are the products I used to achieve this look:
- NEUTROGENA MoistureSmooth Color Stick in “Plum Perfect”
- NEUTROGENA Nourishing Long Wear Eyeshadow with Built in Primer in “Cool Plum”
- NEUTROGENA HEALTHY SKIN Liquid Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 20
- NEUTROGENA HEALTHY SKIN Blush in “Rosy”
- NEUTROGENA Healthy Volume Mascara in “Carbon Black”
Let’s get to the tutorial!
Simple Holiday Plum-Inspired Makeup Tutorial
I always like to start off by doing my eye shadow. Some people like to do foundation or their face first… I’ve pretty much always been the opposite. I prefer to do my eye makeup first so that way if there’s any fallout, I can clean it up with my foundation.
I love that this eyeshadow quad has four gorgeous colors in one, but most of all I LOVE that it has a built in primer to prevent creasing! Saves me from having to do an extra step in my makeup.
First I used the silver shade and applied that all over my lid.
Next, using a crease brush, I used the taupey brown color and filled that into my crease.
Next, I took the deep plum color and applied it to the outer corner of my eyes and also smudged it below my lower lash line to smoke the shadow out a little bit.
Then, I took the light pink shade and applied that to my brow bone all the way up to my eyebrow to highlight.
Next I applied a couple coats of the mascara. Mascara is my favorite item of makeup to apply! And I love that this mascara has natural olive, meadowfoam seed and sweet almond oils that help to moisturize, protect and improve the condition of my lashes. It doesn’t make my lashes feel dried out or flaky at all!
(I make the WEIRDEST faces when I apply mascara… #RealTalk)
Next I applied a thin layer of the liquid makeup all over my face. This particular foundation is formulated with an exclusive anti-oxidant complex that helps protect skin and makes my skin appear young, radiant and healthy. Lord knows I can always use that… 🙂 I ALWAYS get compliments on my skin and makeup when I use this foundation!
After foundation, I applied a light dusting of the rosy blush to the apples of my cheeks. This particular blush is very light-weight and has botanical conditioners that are designed to help the blush blend evenly and provide a natural looking glow – which I love!
And finally, I applied the color stick to my lips to give them that nice hint of plum color. It’s not TOO bold, but is just the right amount of color. The moisture sticks have mango and shea butter to help condition my lips. I can’t stand lip products that dry my lips out – and this particular lip stick really helps to keep my lips feeling smooth!
And that’s it! That’s the look! Super simple, classic, wearable for day and night, and perfect for holiday (or really even anytime of year!).
So what do you think? Will you give this look a try? What NEUTROGENA makeup products have you tried and liked? Any holiday makeup tutorials you’d like to share?
I’ve decided I want to try wearing more lip color this year (I’ve historically been a firm Chapstick only kind of girl), but I’m trying to find products that add color but don’t dry my lips out. Is the Neutrogena Moisture Smooth Color Stick really moisturizing? I might want to try it out! 🙂
I love how naturally glam your holiday look is! I haven’t used the Color Sticks before but totally want to try it out now! #client
So pretty! I love that healthy skin foundation and have used it for years–I hate heavy foundations so I love how lightweight it is. And I also have one of those lip crayon gloss thingies in a really light pink, and it’s my favorite gloss, too! You look great, and may I just say that your freckles are adorable? 🙂
I use Neutrogena primer and make up remover cleansing cloths but it’s been a while since I used their make-up! I’ll have to take an extra look at them because I love that palette and the lipstick! Beautiful tutorial! Thank you for sharing!
yes! their makeup remover cloths are great. I’ve always been a fan of Neutrogena’s foundation and blushes, this was my first time trying the eyeshadow quad and it’s amazing!!
I haven’t used very many Neutrogena products in recent years but this looks great on you! Such a natural beauty 🙂
aw thank you, Cara!
I love Neutrogena, their revitalizing lip balm is a staple for me. I am going to have to try the eye shadow and lip color you used. Your make up looks amazing!
thank you so much, amy!!
