Causebox by Sevenly | Ethical & Fair Trade Subscription Box Review – #FashionForGoodFriday
Let me get this out of the way: this is NOT your typical “monthly subscription box.” I know some of you may have been the title of this post and thought, “Oh no, not another monthly subscription box.” But seriously. Causebox is anything but typical.
I have actually been on the hunt and the search for an ethical and fair trade subscription box. A subscription box that promotes companies that are giving back, have a purpose and mission behind their brand, and doing their part (even if it’s a small part!) in making an impact on the world. I LOVE learning about and discovering new companies like this!
Anyway, I had heard of Sevenly before and even purchased an item or two from them in the past, but had honestly not heard of Causebox until my friend Bethany (owner of The Root Collective “TRC”), shared something on her Facebook page about it! She hinted that TRC might be in the Winter Causebox and to go check it out.
When I went over to the Causebox site, I got SO EXCITED because it was basically EXACTLY what I’d been looking for in an ethical / fair trade subscription box. So, I pretty much registered for an account and got a subscription and signed up to receive a Causebox right away.
In short, Causebox is a quarterly box (with very limited run) that contains a collection of ethically-made products that give back and empower others. Shipping is free and you have two options as far as payment goes… You can pay annually and pay $199.80 upfront for the year (which equates to $49.95 a quarter), or you can choose to pay $54.95 quarterly and forgo the entire annual cost upfront.
In each quarterly Causebox, you get about $150 worth of ethically made, full-sized products! So, honestly, to me it’s worth it! Plus, think of the impact you’re making on the brands and the people THEY are impacting!! #worthit
In any event… my first box came this week and I literally said, “YAY!!!!!!!!” the moment it arrived. I realize this is a very silly thing to do, but I was excited, okay?! Haha!
It was like a veritable Christmas morning opening it up and seeing what’s inside. I also loved learning about all the different companies in it. I thought it would be fun to share with you guys what came in my Winter Causebox! And I definitely encourage you to check it out!
Look at all the GORGEOUS goodies that came in the winter box! GAH!
First up? One Love Organics: Gardenia & Tea Antioxidant Body Serum (Retail cost: $39)
You guys, this serum. smells. heavenly. Seriously. I could smell it as soon as I opened the box up and it just has this gorgeous aroma about it. It’s completely non-toxic (which y’all KNOW I love!), it’s organic, and the ingredients are also ethically sourced.
I have been spraying this serum on after I get out of the shower and it really moisturizes and keeps my skin feeling soft and refreshed. To say I’m a fan is an understatement! I can’t WAIT to check out more of the OLO products!
From the One Love Organics website:
100% of the total ingredients are from natural origin
21.7% of the total ingredients are from organic farming
Natural and Organic Cosmetics certified by Ecocert Greenlife according to Ecocert Standard available at http://cosmetics.ecocert.com.
Next up? The Root Collective! (Passport cover + Gift Card = $50+ retail value)
TRC is no stranger to this blog and I was SO excited to see them featured in the winter box. Since it would be a little tough to send everyone a pair of shoes, TRC had their artisans make these GORGEOUS hand-woven passport covers out of the same material / fabric that the shoes are made out of.
PLUS, in addition to the gorgeous passport cover, we got a $45 gift card to The Root Collective! YES!!!! Y’all know I loved that!
Isn’t it beautiful? I love the attention to detail that the weavers take.
A yummy treat is next on the list… Alter Eco Slow Roasted Dark Almond Organic Chocolate ($3.99 / bar)
Coincidentally, I was introduced to Alter Eco last weekend by my friend Tracey! So, I was REALLY excited to see a full sized bar in the box. Their chocolate is DELICIOUS and to be honest, I don’t even normally LIKE dark chocolate. It’s just something about the texture and taste of their chocolate that is different and soooooo good.
All of their chocolate is made from ethically sourced cocoa beans, it’s organic, it’s fair trade, it’s vegan, carbon neutral, and even the packaging is made from sustainable materials.
Next is a GORGEOUS handmade necklace from LandMine Design (Retail value: ~$36):
I hadn’t heard of LandMine Design before this and now I’m SO glad to have learned a little more about them. All of the pieces are handmade by amazing artisans in Cambodia. EACH purchase goes towards the continued education and employment of women living in The MineField Village of Cambodia.
The stories of these women are amazing. They’re overcoming incredible odds and doing something amazing to provide a life for themselves and their families.
…Not to mention the necklace (and all their jewelry) is just gorgeous!
Another good-smelling member of this quarter’s box: The “Mingle” Candle from Bridgewater Candle Company (Retail Value: $20)
These candles are all made in America and with the purchase of each candle, Bridgewater Candle Company helps to feed a child in an impoverished nation.
And, y’all know I am very cautious about my candle burning… but I was so excited to see that that their candles have lead-free wicks, are clean burning, are hand poured in America (their headquarters is in South Carolina!), and are all-natural soy blend waxes. HOORAY!!!!!!!! Non-toxic candles that are doing good in this world, for the win!
This particular candle smells amazing and isn’t overpowering or smells of faux fragrances. I love it!
Last but not least… a BEAUTIFUL handwoven basket from SoloHope (Retail value: ~$36):
From the SoloHope website:
A SoloHope collection inspired by the unique and diverse elements of Honduras where our products are handcrafted by women overcoming poverty to live empowered lives full of hope.
This beautiful basket was handwoven from pine straw and thread and is absolutely gorgeous. I have NO idea how those artisans create such stunning pieces like this! This is the perfect basket to have by the sink to put jewelry in, or even to have on your dresser or entryway table to store keys, change, knick-knacks, etc. Not to mention it starts a great conversation about a great company!
So there you have it! My first Causebox by Sevenly review. I think it’s safe to say I LOVED it and will definitely continue to be a subscriber! I can’t WAIT for my next box to arrive!!
What about you? Have you heard of Causebox? Will you check it out?
*NOTE: This is not sponsored nor does Causebox even know I’m writing about them… I paid for the subscription and wanted to share it with y’all because I was so excited about it! But as always, I am totally 100% honest with y’all and only share with you guys stuff I LOVE… sponsored or not!
I just stumbled upon your blog and this post. I love it! Thank you for introducing me to causebox!
I have been thinking about trying out the Causebox! I love Sevenly and love a lot of the brands they have featured. You might have convinced me to finally go for it!
How have I not heard of this? What a wonderful box.
