We Need Your Help! Let’s Fill Back-to-School Backpacks for Kids in Need
I’m going to come right out and say it: WE NEED YOUR HELP.
Some of you may already know this, but if you don’t, I will tell you… I serve on the Board of Directors for a local non-profit called Transforming Hope, an organization that is working to END human trafficking here in the central North Carolina area. Human Trafficking is an issue that I’m extremely passionate about and one of the big misconceptions about human trafficking is that is happens internationally and not right here at home.
Well, the fact is, human trafficking is a real problem that happens in our own communities. Locally, here in the central North Carolina area, one of the common things we hear is that if kids are not positively impacted by the age of 15, they will be dead or in jail by 18.
That is an extremely blunt statement that is true more often than it should be.
One of the ways that Transforming Hope has been working to PREVENT kids becoming the victims of trafficking is to connect with them and positively impact them from an early age. We’ve been doing “local missions trips” to the areas of our community that need encouragement, support, and positivity. We’re linking arms with local groups to serve the people who are in so much need.
This coming weekend, we are headed into an area of our community to serve some of the poorest and most at-risk kids and families and help them get ready for the upcoming school year. Our goal is to donate 300 backpacks full of supplies to 300 kids in our community who need it the most.
Did you know that the average cost to send a kid to school with a backpack full of supplies and fees for extracurricular activities is around $659 for elementary school and all the way up to $1,498 for high school? 
The mere thought of purchasing a new backpack and school supplies can be CRIPPLING for families living below the poverty line.
BUT, we can’t gather and fill 300 backpacks for 300 kids without the support of the community and awesome people like you.
I get emails from my awesome blog readers ALL THE TIME asking what they can do to help give back and make a positive impact. Sometimes we get so busy and we want to help, but we just don’t know HOW or we don’t have a place to give or serve.
Well, here is a REALLY EASY WAY you can help right now and make a positive impact and make a difference in the life of an awesome kid who needs some love and light… BONUS? You don’t even have to live in North Carolina… you can help from wherever you are RIGHT NOW!
Transforming Hope has created “Wish Lists” on Amazon, Target, and Walmart where you can order a backpack and/or supplies and have them shipped directly to the Transforming Hope office where we will pack and stuff the bags and deliver them to kids THIS WEEKEND!
Amazon is really your best option ESPECIALLY if you have Amazon prime so that we ensure we get the items in time!

So, let’s do this. One backpack, one pack of pencils, one ream of paper… if we all come together, we can make a HUGE difference for kids and positively impact them this school year.
The more that we are able to positively impact kids and show them how AMAZING they are, the less likely they will turn to negative influences to find their worth.
