The Sweetness of Routine
When I was pregnant with Lilly, John and I talked a lot about what kinds of things would be “our thing” after the baby was born. What I mean is, we wanted to be intentional about having individual times with the kids. With me staying home and exclusively breastfeeding, it’s easy for me to get caught up in “doing it all” and trying to just take over everything… but I don’t ever want that to be the case! Obviously we are a TEAM and even though John works and isn’t home with the kids all day like I am, he wanted something that was “his” so he had his time and I had my time and vice versa.
One of the things we both agreed would be all his was bath time. And that’s been such a huge blessing to me AND to John! Ever since Lilly was born and even now since Amos was born, John does bath time with the kids every single night and that time is SO special and important for him and for the kids.
Since both John and I work for ourselves and own our own businesses, our schedules and our routines are sometimes crazy, so simple nightly routines help slow us down! Every night, after dinner, John takes the kids up for bath time and I get a little alone time. Then, after bath, we all come together to read, pray, and put the kids in bed.
There is something just so innocent and pure and sweet about a sweet baby snuggled up after a bath. Wrapping Amos up (or Lilly, when she was tiny!) in a snuggly, soft hooded towel like these Just Born sparkle towels, is just so special. There’s something about that simple, everyday routine that reminds me that it doesn’t have to be big or elaborate to be memorable.
Some of my favorite memories with my kids are little memories after bath, that time just before bed reading a book, praying together, singing songs, snuggling… it’s the best.
Today just so happens to be my 31st birthday, and while I’m actually not big on celebrating my own birthday, I’m realizing as I get older that I appreciate the little things more and actually LIKE getting older. So far my 30s have actually been pretty awesome and I just look forward to getting to watch my kids grow and spend more quality time with my family. <3
What about you? What are some of your favorite moments or memories with your kiddos?
