A Family Hike at Linville Falls, North Carolina
My family and I went on a hike at Linville Falls, North Carolina. See a recap of our Linville Falls hike, plus – I want to sing the praises of prAna, one of my favorite ethical and sustainable activewear brands. Thank you to prAna for partnering with me on this post! Use prAna coupon code MHMMS15 now through the end of September for 15% off your purchase!
I hope you guys had the BEST Labor Day weekend. My family and I decided to head up to the mountains of North Carolina to get one last hurrah before the school year starts. Both Lilly AND Amos are going to preschool this year and so we wanted to treasure the last bits of summer as a family. We love visiting Linville, North Carolina and the Grandfather Mountain area (I’ve shared our previous trips up there before here and here), but in all the times we’ve been up there, Linville Falls was still on our list to-do. So, on Sunday after church and brunch, we got our hiking clothes on and headed over to Linville Falls!
Linville Falls has a few different hiking trail options and there are short, intermediate, and longer trails for any skill level as far as hiking goes. The trails are really well cleared out so, honestly, it’s not a difficult hike! We decided to do all three look out points – the initial look out point, the chimney rock overlook, and Erwin’s view. In total, from parking lot out and back, it was about three miles! It took us, in total, about two hours… and we had the grandparents and both kids with us. We did have to take a few breaks (mainly because Lilly kept saying her legs were SOOOO TIRED), but overall, Linville Falls was a GREAT hike.
We love being outdoors as a family… going for long walks or hikes are such a great way to get exercise (even when you don’t really feel like you’re “working out”). Lilly had the best time running and jumping and collecting rocks and finding leaves and looking at the beautiful Linville Falls!
Amos pretty much just hung out in the carrier… hahah!
This was the first stop on the Linville Falls hike. This is the upper falls overlook and it is beautiful. It’s the closest and easiest of the three main stops at Linville Falls and, in total, from parking lot to the overlook and back, is about 1.2 miles.

Let me pause for a minute and share a little bit about my activewear that I wore on our hike. As I have shared before, prAna is quite possibly my favorite ethical and sustainable activewear brand. Not only are their clothes INCREDIBLE and so well made… they are comfortable, super stylish, and I love that you can wear their clothes out for a hike or even out to lunch with friends. Also, this is a company that does ethical clothing RIGHT. Practicing fair trade, ethical, and sustainable practices are most important to them and y’all know how that is what is most important to me! prAna’s new fall line is AMAZING and these leggings and this pullover were PERFECT for our hike. I also can’t WAIT to work out at Burn Boot Camp in these deco crop leggings!!!

The views from the upper Linville Falls were beautiful!
We continued about another half mile to the Chimney Rock overlook… this one got a little bit more challenging and there were a few portions that the steps or grade was steep and we had to help Lilly… but the view was WORTH it.
The final stop was at Erwin’s View at Linville Falls and it was another .1 miles past the Chimney Rock overlook. We were tired by this point, but again, the views were so worth it!!
Lilly on the way back to the car… she was READY to be home!
Amos passed out at the end… hahahaha! He had enough hiking for one day 🙂
Now what about you? Do you love to hike? Have you been to Linville Falls in North Carolina? Let me know in the comments below!
Hiking is actually one thing we have not done as a family yet! My oldest (20) has gone a few times and keeps trying to convince me to do it as a family. I think we may need to make it happen. Looks like a lot of fun and a great way to explore our NC just a bit more!
Love your outfit Molly! Looks like so much fun!
I was up in Boone this weekend, so very close to you! Sunday was such a glorious day for hiking! I have purchased a pair of prAna yoga pants for mom before but never for myself. May be putting some pants on my own wish list!
This looks so amazing! Definitely going on my list of places to visit! Your leggings are really cute, I love the criss cross design and that the brand is ethical and sustainable. Lilly’s shirt is too cute by the way!
This looks like such a fun hike – several great views on a day hike! I haven’t been to Linville falls yet, but a backpacking trip through Linville Gorge is on the top of my list of trips (I just need to plan a decently long weekend for the trip). Lilly is adorable in the pics and it looks like she had a good time even if she said her legs got tired! Also, yay for prAna! I really like their athletic and athleisure clothes and their commitment to ethical and sustainable production. I’ll have to check out their new line 🙂
Gorgeous views, we plan on making a trip to mountains in the fall. I’ll have to keep this trail in mind! love your leggings, adding to my wishlist!
I love the mountains and hiking. It looks like you had a great time with your family, and Lilly is SO funny! She had me cracking up in most of her pictures! I can’t wait for Sebastian to get old enough to take on fun family hikes. I also really like this line of active wear. Sometimes when you see that something is ethical and sustainable, it feels kind of boring, but these pieces are pretty and fun. Definitely something I could see myself wearing.
What a fun trip! The last time I was at Linville Falls, I was 30 weeks pregnant, so hubs and I just did the short hike. Still beautiful and totally do-able! I’ve only heard of this line before a few times (on your blog, I think!) but I really love all of there things. Looks so stylish, but still comfy and practical for being active!
That area of our state is so pretty. We are heading to the mountains at the end of Sept/beginning of Oct (literally the weekend that September ends and October begins) and I have this on my list of hikes to do!
We have never been but it looks fun! I love that you found ethical workout clothing! Also, Lilly is so cute posing.
xo, Lee
