3 of the Best Podcasts for Kids
I love podcasts. I listen to podcasts all day every day. I even host a podcast (not-so-shameless plug). But recently, I’ve even been able to get my 4-year-old daughter Lilly into podcasts! To be honest, I didn’t even realize that they HAD podcasts for kids… I have been trying to cut down on Lilly’s screen time (this is a struggle, I’m just being honest) and so finding out that there are podcasts for kids was so exciting! So, I thought it might be helpful for other parents or caregivers to know what three of the best podcasts for kids are so you, too, can introduce your little ones to the amazing world of podcasting!
Also, for those of you who have never listened to a podcast or don’t know how, you can check out this post I wrote a few weeks ago on how to listen and subscribe to a podcast.
Disney Story Central Podcast
This is Lilly’s favorite podcast. We have listened to every single story / episode at least 10 times. Maybe more. She begs to listen to it nearly every day. In fact, there are days when she would rather listen to this podcast than watch a show. She calls it her “Princess Podcast,” but honestly, there are only a couple of princess stories. So this podcast is great for little guys AND girls. You’ve got classic Disney stories like The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast, and then you have newer tales like Zootopia, Moana, and Cars.
(The only downside to this podcast is they have not released a new episode since April. I need to find someone at Disney to get them to release a new episode! I am BEGGING YOU. RELEASE NEW EPISODES. WE NEED NEW EPISODES!!!! Haha!)
EPISODE LENGTH: 6-20 minutes
FAVORITE GATEWAY EPISODE: Toy Story
Click to subscribe on iTunes, it is also available on other podcast apps!
Wow in the World
This is a newer podcast produced by NPR and it is fantastic!! It’s geared towards “older” kids around ages 5-8, but honestly, at 4, Lilly loves it. Episodes are released every Monday and Thursday and hosts Guy Raz and Mindy Thomas are really engaging and funny. The episodes talk about different science / earth topics and really break complex topics down. It’s great for kids who are interested in STEM topics – and it would be great for kids who maybe aren’t interested YET!
EPISODE LENGTH: 15-30 minutes
FAVORITE GATEWAY EPISODE: Mosquitoes, Stinky Socks, and Bread… Oh My!
Show website.
Story Time – Children’s Stories for Kids at Bedtime or Anytime
This is another great podcast for kids who love stories. Lilly loves to read, but mostly, she loves to LISTEN to someone reading. This podcast has great, fun (and funny!) stories for kids to hear anytime OR right as you’re getting ready for bed.
EPISODE LENGTH: 5-15 minutes
FAVORITE GATEWAY EPISODE: Billy the Bathtub Goes to the Park
So there you have it!
What about you? Have you ever listened to podcasts with your kids? If so, I would love to know what your favorite podcasts for kids are! Leave them in the comments so I can check them out.
I’m definitely subscribing to the Disney Story Central podcast!!! That sounds amazing!!!
