One of the most classic outfits is denim on denim… but I get asked all the time, “How do you do the denim on denim look without looking like Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears circa 2001?”
YIKES.
FIRST, the key is to *not* match the denim shades / colors.
Seriously. This is the main key and as long as you get this part right, you can almost always pull it off. So, if you have a pair of dark denim jeans, then pair them with a light wash denim jacket. If you have a dark wash denim jacket, then pair it with a light wash denim pant. You can also do a chambray denim top, but again, make sure it’s a lighter or darker wash than your pant.
SECOND, make sure you add some type of “layer” in there to break it up. A simple top, a plain white tee, a tank… something to balance the denim out. If you have a chambray top instead of a denim jacket, put a white tank on underneath and don’t button the top up all the way.
THIRD, for accessories, keep them classic and simple and break them up with a different color. I love the neutral pop of camel from the shoes and this amazing ABLE backpack that help to break up the different shades of blue in this outfit.
I kept my jewelry pretty simple for this and allowed the color pops to come from the bag and shoes.
Speaking of this backpack… I AM OBSESSED WITH IT. I love purses, but I’ve been really loving using a backpack as a purse lately and this one is amazing. It has a padded insert for my laptop so I can use it for work and it also is roomy enough for my wallet and all the things. It makes a great mom bag that doesn’t LOOK like a mom bag! But trust me when I say that ANY woman can rock this bag!
