STYLE: 11 Ways to Wear a Summer Scarf

So this post has been a majorly requested one after I shared my 10 Ways to Wear an Infinity Scarf post last fall. (Fun fact, that post is one of my most popular posts of all time. It’s been pinned like a bajillion times… okay, not a bajillion, but you know what I mean. Crazy!)

Anyway. Y’all know I love my scarves… BIG fan of scarves over here. And A LOT of you have asked, “You love scarves so much, how do you wear them in the summer time when it’s hot? Please share some ideas on how to wear a summer scarf!”

It gets downright SWELTERING in the summers here in North Carolina. We barely even have a spring… it pretty much goes from winter to summer… but I don’t let that stop me from busting out my favorite scarves.

So, if you’re like me and you love scarves, don’t feel like you have to pack them away once the temperatures get warm! Now, if it’s a fleece or wool scarf, yeah, you need to pack that away for the warmer months, but a flowy or lightweight scarf is PERFECT!

Also, funny story, when I set out to do this post I only intended on doing 10 ways to wear it… Then I took these photos and kept coming up with different ways to style it and when I downloaded the pics on my computer I realized I did 11 ways… so, YAY! A bonus way!

I kept the outfit for this plain and simple to just highlight the ways to wear the scarf, but if you’re interested, here are the details:

Now, let’s get to it…

STYLE: 11 Ways to Wear a Summer Scarf

1. The Classic Scarf Loop

DIRECTIONS: Hold the scarf by both ends in front of you. Throw it around your neck so both ends are hanging down on your back, then bring each side over around your front.

2. The Hang

DIRECTIONS: By far the easiest in the group… just hang it over your shoulders. That’s it. Haha!

3. The Side Sweep

DIRECTIONS: Hang it over your shoulders and then tie it once. Throw one side over your right shoulder on your back and let the other hang hang down on your front… it just sort of “sweeps” over your shoulder.

4. The Bag Lady (can you tell I came up with these names on the fly?)

DIRECTIONS: Grab your favorite bag or purse (bonus points for a bag with a bright contrasting color) and just tie the scarf in a bow around one your bag straps. Adds a fun element to the bag AND your outfit!

5. The Belt

DIRECTIONS: Tie it around your waist and finish it off by tying it in a bow. Definitely spruces up the simplest of outfits.

6. The Collar

DIRECTIONS: Begin by twisting the scarf on itself and then by wrapping the scarf all the way around your neck and then tuck it into itself forming a “collar” or even a turtleneck-like thing. This one is definitely best with a lightweight scarf if you’re going to do it when it’s hot.

7. The Bow

DIRECTIONS: Follow the same directions for “The Hang” but instead of just, well, letting it hang… tie it in a bow and drape it to the side. Fun and super girly!

8. The Superwoman Cape

DIRECTIONS: Make sure the scarf is wide enough and then just drape it over your shoulders forming a shawl / cape. I LOVE this style especially with dresses on cooler evenings. I’ll often tie the scarf on my bag (like the Bag Lady style) to make sure I have a scarf on hand in case it gets chilly when we’re out and about in the evenings after the sun has gone down.

9. The Braid-y Bunch

DIRECTIONS: Begin by letting the scarf hang over your shoulders and begin tying the scarf, but instead of pulling it all the way tight, just keep tying the scarf all the way down almost like a braid. Then, tuck the ends into the braid.

10. The Loop Da Loop

DIRECTIONS: This one may be a little difficult to describe, so work with me… Fold the scarf in half in front of you so the ends are in your left hand and the folded end is in your right hand. Take the whole thing and put it behind your neck and bring the loop end over the right shoulder and the open ends over the left shoulder. Take ONE of the open ends and put it THROUGH the loop. Then, take the OTHER open end and weave it OVER and in the loop. It creates almost like a braided effect… I really hope that makes sense. If it doesn’t, PLEASE tell me and I’ll post more detailed directions. 🙂

11. The Headband

DIRECTIONS: Tie it over your head like a headband. Haha! Pretty simple! 🙂 I LOVE this style, too! It’s one of my favorites.
