A few weeks ago, I had an hour or so to myself and was perusing the mall and popped into Madewell to see if there was anything on sale (let’s be honest, I don’t buy anything full price at Madewell). I saw this dress on the final sale rack… it was by itself… it was the ONLY one… in my size… and it was $17!!! I was like, “Whaaaaaaaaat?!” I tried it on and it fit like a glove. It’s so comfortable… but, honestly, by itself, it is definitely a boring dress.

It’s one of those dresses that while it could be worn on it’s own… it shouldn’t… It needs a belt, or a scarf, or a cardigan, or a statement necklace, or a blazer to really dress it up. BUT, I LOVE basic dresses like that… those pieces are VITAL pieces in a closet that works for you.

It’s one of those dresses that makes you look way more dressed up than you actually are… know what I mean?

  17. You’re quite right – a basic dress can often be the workhorse of the wardrobe, as you can style it so many different ways. I used to always go for quite complicated and fancy dresses but you can’t rewear them as often or make them work for so many situations. Love that you’re wearing a pair of those earrings again that you’ve got in about ten colours!! Thanks for hosting x

  32. Molly I’m all for simple basics in my wardrobe… some of my best buys have been basics that have lasted years! Sometimes I buy something thinking I might only wear it a couple of times but then it turns out to be really versatile (ever get that)?

    Plus I know said it last week but I LOVE LOVE LOVE that scarf!!

    The colours are soooo pretty and it works so well with your dress/boots/jacket combo. You always brighten my Monday mornings, hun. Thanks for hosting 🙂
