I talk constantly about getting dressed in the mornings. Girrrrl, I know it’s hard. Some days alllll I want to do is stay in yoga pants or sweats. Some days allllll I want to do is stay in jammies. And yep, there are days where that is EXACTLY what happens. And I’m not ashamed.
The point is, I just try to not make a habit of it. Because you know as well as I do, you often FEEL the way you look. If that makes any sense… If I look frumpy, then I probably feel frumpy. If I haven’t taken the time to brush my teeth, or comb my hair, or throw on some mascara, I don’t feel like myself.
Sometimes people will ask me, “Why are you so dressed up? Who are you getting dressed up for?” And the answer is… ME! I am getting dressed for ME and my own sanity. And yes, sometimes I want to get dressed up to wow my husband. I love remembering those days where I’d PAINSTAKINGLY plan my outfits before I was going to go out with him or before I’d see him… I don’t ever want to lose that spark or that desire to woo him… you know?
But, the fact is, I get dressed for ME. It’s so easy to put that stuff on the backburner and make yourself less of a priority. And trust me, it does NOT happen every day… but I notice that on the days I get up just a LITTLE earlier and put on some makeup and a cute outfit… I just feel so much better.
Now what about you?
Who do YOU get dressed for? Do you agree? Disagree?
I totally agree. I feel powerful when I take the time to get dressed up.
I went through a major rut after gaining about 10 pounds. I was wearing yoga pants when the hubs and I went out to eat. Now, I make an effort when we go out because I still spend all day in yoga pants, haha.
Love this! It’s so true! I’ve had a really bad habit lately of staying in the yoga pants/sweats when we’re not doing anything. I need to get back in the habit of wearing clothes agin! 🙂
I completely agree! I work in a super casual office but I get dressed up because I have the clothes and I like to look nice, not because it is required but because it puts me in a better mood and I have more confidence!

I get dressed for myself! I don’t think anyone should dress for someone else.

I agree! Honestly, who says that I have to have a reason to dress the way that I do, anyways?! I want to. I enjoy it. It’s my body. How about that?!
I definitely get dressed up just for me. Because where I live, no one dresses up. Camo prints and Under Armor sweatshirts is what everyone wears here in the Northwoods.
I LOVE this post Molly! I agree with you 100% and I always force myself to get dressed when I can and to remember to do it for myself! Amazing!
Found you through SBS!!

Getting dressed for you is the most important thing. You have to love yourself first before you can truly love anything else, be it your mate, job, children, etc.
So true, Molly. On the days when I decide to stay in my jammies I am way less productive. When I take a shower, put on make-up and get dressed – I get more done!
I couldn’t agree more, however, as I’m writing this, I’m sitting at my table in yoga pants, a running jacket, and a pony tail. But I do feel so much better on the days when I actually put in the effort!
Totally agree…I very rarely have a day when I do not get “dressed”…I just don’t feel productive or myself if I don’t. My 88 year old grandma still gets dressed every day from head to toe and I know I will be the same.
I completely agree! I love it when my coworkers comment and ask why I am all dressed up when I’m simply in a dress with some statement jewelry. If I dressed for someone else who knows what I would wear but I love feminine, girly, things and so getting dressed is always fun (except for Saturday mornings when all I want to wear are yoga pants which works out for pushing myself to the gym).
For a while I was just putting clothes on to have something on. Now I have become more where I dress for me. I love to have something bright and cheerful. 🙂 And I always love your outfits!
I’ve gotten in such a rut of “mom fashion” jeans & a t-shirt with my hair in a ponytail… I’ve really been making an effort lately to get out of it though, even if it’s just adding a little jewelry or a cute jacket, it makes me feel so much better! And I do wear make up almost every day, that makes the biggest difference for me, a little blush and mascara goes a long way!
I always get dressed for me! There are times when my poor husband has no idea what to think or say about my outfit choice but I love it and that’s what matters. When I look nice, I feel nice. Plus I have to admit on those days when I see a few heads turn at the store it makes me smile.
xo, Lee
I definitely get dressed for me. It’s such a confidence booster when I know that I look nice and took a little time on my appearance! 🙂
