Party Dessert Idea | A Little Twist on a Peppermint Bark Recipe
I love to cook. I didn’t always love to cook, but I knew I always had a knack for it. I enjoy my time in the kitchen and I enjoy coming up with recipes. However, I am not naturally a baker. My sister is the baker of the family… I did not get the baking gene. BUT, just because I’m not naturally a baker doesn’t mean that I don’t love a sweet treat and to make dessert.
But, usually when I’m in charge of bringing dessert to a holiday party (whether it’s a Christmas party or a New Year’s Eve party), I love bringing this homemade peppermint bark with me! It’s SO easy to make and it’s always a hit! It’s almost always one of the first desserts to disappear. 🙂
I teamed up with a bunch of other fabulous bloggers (details below!) to host a “virtual New Year’s Eve” party and I’m bringing the peppermint bark!
This recipe really is so easy and delicious! I hope you give it a try!
Party Dessert Idea | A Little Twist on a Peppermint Bark Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 bars of baking white chocolate
- 2 bars of baking milk chocolate or dark chocolate, if you prefer
- 2-4 drops of Peppermint essential oil Make sure it is therapeutic grade that can be ingested. I get mine here.
- Raw cane sugar
- Sprinkles crushed candy canes, or chocolate chips (I used chocolate chips)
- Parchment paper & a cookie sheet
Instructions
-
Lay out your parchment paper on a cookie sheet. In a glass bowl, melt the milk chocolate in the microwave in 30 second increments. Then, once melted, stir well with a spatula until smooth. Add in 1-3 drops of peppermint essential oil (totally depends on how "pepperminty" you want it... the peppermint oil is very potent so a little goes a long way!) Then stir well.
-
Pour the chocolate on the parchment paper and spread evenly. Place in the freezer for about 10 minutes or until solidified.
-
Once the milk chocolate layer is solid, repeat the previous steps with the white chocolate (melt, stir until smooth, add in 1-2 drops of peppermint essential oil, and stir.) Then, pour the melted white chocolate on top of the solidified milk chocolate and spread evenly.
-
Then, you can get creative! Even though I love peppermint, I'm actually not the biggest fan of candy canes (weird, I know), so instead of crushed candy canes, I added some raw cane sugar crystals to the top (kinda hard to see in the pics) to add some sparkle AND a nice little crunch factor. Then I added some chocolate chips because, well, I love chocolate chips and it's my peppermint bark and I'll add chocolate chips if I want to. BUT, you could totally do sprinkles or crushed Oreos or anything!
-
Then, place back in the freezer for another 10-15 minutes. Once solidified, break it apart into little servings and you're good to go!
This is such a quick and easy sweet treat to serve at ANY holiday party… but would be perfect even for New Year’s Eve! I mean, because, who says you can only serve peppermint bark at Christmas?
What do you think? Will you give this recipe a try?
