The Blue House Bakery
You guys, to be honest, I am a little teary eyed writing this post. No, I’m not sad, I’m teary eyed because I’m so happy and so proud of my sister.
For those of you that don’t know, my sister is a baker! She has her own cake business, Cakes by B, and has had such a love and passion for baking for years. Bridgid is one of the hardest working people I have ever known. She worked in the restaurant industry for years and then transitioned to being a preschool teacher. She always loved to make cakes and cupcakes and goodies for different showers and events, but really started to do more when fellow teachers and parents at her school started asking her to bake for them (and then THEY started telling people). So, Bridgid started her “side hustle,” Cakes by B, and then in 2010, when my nephew was born, she decided to stay home with him and pursue her business full-time. Ever since she started, my sister has had a dream to open her own bakery and coffee shop in the heart of Jamestown, North Carolina where she lives.
Well, after A LOT of planning, research, and A LOT of blood, sweat, tears, hard work, prayer, and so much more later… the perfect spot opened up in July and after a couple months of INTENSE prep, just last week, my sister opened up her bakery: Cakes by B’s Blue House Bakery (and coffee shop!!!!).
It’s in the PERFECT location… I mean, literally. It’s in an old (150+ year old) blue house on Main Street in downtown Jamestown, North Carolina. Jamestown is the epitome of the adorable, historic southern town. It has so much history, charm, and the people there are so devoted and proud of it!
I honestly could not be more proud of her. Seeing her achieve her dream and seeing how hard she has worked for this just makes me so happy. Bridgid is the definition of “good things come to those who WORK for them.”
I wanted to share with you guys some pictures of the bakery from the day she had her grand opening. It was POURING rain because Hurricane Matthew was roaring through and still, people were flowing in!! Everyone in town could not be more excited about this bakery opening!
I mean, HOW CUTE IS IT?!?!?! I love the front porch! She even has outside picnic tables!
Lilly checking the place out…
A cake my sister make to represent Jamestown!
My brother-in-law, Bob, hard at work helping to bake!
And my Aunt Deborah even came by to help on the grand opening day!!
The display case!! Everything is seriously SO delicious. My sister had a hard time keeping the shelves stocked the first few days!!!! The demand was so great and everyone was wanting more. 🙂
Something SUPER unique is that my sister actually worked with a local roaster to create her OWN “Blue House Blend” coffee. How awesome is that?! If you’re a coffee lover, you will LOVE the Blue House Blend!
My sister’s shortbread cookies are amazing. <3
Just some of the daily baked goodies. Her cinnamon rolls and scones are SO GOOD. I mean, they are all good… but man… my mouth is watering just typing this!
The drink menu! Her lattes are delicious and I, personally, am a fan of her white cafe mocha. SO good.
Now, this part is really special to me because my sister asked me to help out with something for her bakery… she asked me to do all the photography for the decor on the walls around the bakery!!! So, we took a couple of hours and went around some of the most iconic and historic areas of Jamestown, North Carolina and I photographed them! Bridgid picked her favorites, and the FABULOUS and crazy-amazing people at Canvas HQ so generously donated ALL OF THE CANVAS PRINTS for the bakery!!!!
It’s so cool to see some of my own images printed in this way and hanging on the walls of the bakery! I can’t thank my sister enough for asking me to do this!
This image is of an old schoolhouse / church in Jamestown:
The old plantation…
This is the well room. Yes, this house has an old WELL in it!!! How cool is that? We aren’t sure exactly of the age of it, but we guess it’s over 150 years old.
The baking room…
More canvases on the walls… this is Wrenn Miller Park and the Veteran’s Memorial…
One of the rooms with tables and chairs for relaxing, working, etc. She has free wifi!!
The old Oakdale Store…
Bridgid even has a “kids corner” with kid’s chairs, chalkboard and chalk!
Town Hall and the Fire Department…
This is the “Leather Room” which is a really quiet room that’s great for studying, working, or you could even hold small meetings / gatherings in it!
Potent Potables…
The Jamestown News and Lydia’s Tunnel
Dillon Road Bridge…
The old Mill…
The Jamestown Public Library hanging over the fireplace in the main room.
Seriously though… I’ll be doing a separate post later on my experience with Canvas HQ, but let me just say they were PHENOMENAL. I cannot thank them enough for being so wonderful to work with. The quality of the canvases is AMAZING and they were so detailed oriented and really wanted to make sure we loved the product. I love that Canvas HQ is a family owned business, too! If you are looking to print some canvas pictures, DEFINITELY check out Canvas HQ. They’re PHENOMENAL!
