I am (and always have been) curvy and more pear shaped and I hear from other similarly-shaped women all the time that they still are afraid to wear a striped dress. They are afraid that a striped dress will make them look wider or more hippy or whatever… there’s still a lot of hesitation around wearing stripes for some women. And that is okay! But I am here to tell you that you don’t HAVE to feel that way! This striped dress from Aventura clothing has been a favorite this summer because it’s so comfortable and easy to style. SO I thought I’d use this great dress to show you how to style a striped dress!
For me, it’s all in balance and finding ways to call attention to other parts of your body that you *do* want to focus on.
First – break up the stripes by giving it structure. What I mean is, throw on a blazer, cardigan, a jacket, or a vest Aventura clothing. The simple act of throwing on a layering piece can really give your outfit structure which can help with drawing the eye away from areas you might be more conscious of.
Second – accessorize! Find a necklace you love – I am in LOVE with this wrap necklace from 7 Charming Sisters. Super affordable, simple, chic, and can be worn so many different ways! Throw in a great bag or a chic pair of earrings and you are good to go.
And lastly, third – pay attention to the CUT of the dress. For me, I prefer an a-line cut because I like the way it shapes me better than something more form-fitting. There is a time and a place for form fitting, for sure… but in this instance, I want something that flows AWAY from the body. If you are larger chested, look for something that draws more attention to your hips.
At the end of the day wear what makes you comfortable and makes you feel amazing. But don’t shy away from something as classic as a striped dress, JUST because you think you “can’t wear it.”
