I had WAY MORE people message me last week than I would have anticipated after my “how to style a striped dress” post. I honestly had no idea so many women out there are still worried about wearing stripes! I even have one reader say, “I tried on the cutest striped dress at the store the other day, but didn’t buy it simply because it was striped. I don’t know that I could pull it off!” WHAAAT? Okay, so this tells me that we’ve got to break the barrier of entry to stripes. Or something? Ladies, stripes are not your enemy. They can totally be your friend!! It’s all in how you style them. SO, in continuing my theme of stripes, I thought it would be helpful to do a post on how to style a striped pencil skirt.
I LOVE pencil skirts (see this post on four ways to style a floral pencil skirt!) and this navy and white abstract striped pencil skirt from GeekChic fashion is SO comfortable! It’s made in the USA of super soft and stretchy cotton! And it’s incredibly versatile! You can easily dress this striped pencil skirt up or dress it down.
So first tip is to make sure to “balance” out the skirt.
If you’re wearing a striped pencil skirt, find a solid color top that compliments a color in the skirt. If you’re unsure on stripes, this is *not* the time to try pattern mixing.
Next, if you are conscious of your hips, find a top that is a little looser around the top to even things out.
This peplum top is so comfortable and really flattering. It also draws attention away from the areas I’m more self-concious about.
Third, throw on heels or a wedge to elongate the legs.
I am not a heels girl, but I do love a good pair of comfortable wedges. This really does help to elongate the leg and gives you such a flattering figure!
And lastly, accessorize!! Throw on a gorgeous necklace, fun earrings, and a classic clutch.
This really can help to spruce up your look and make you feel that much more confident!!
So what do you think? Are you a stripes girl? What tips do you have for wearing a striped pencil skirt?
Love pencil skirts. This one is adorable. Being on the “bigger size”. I was weary but love the way pencil skirts hug my curves. I’ve decided to just live where I am and not fret about where I should be, weight wise. Thanks for always being a great example.
I pretty much want to steal that entire outfit! So cute and I love the fit of the peplum! They are super hit or miss on me, but this one looks amazing on you.
Thank you!!! It’s one of my favorites!
Love the skirt and blouse!!😊
Thank you!
