Fitness Update! Burn Boot Camp Review
I’m a little overdue for an update on my health and fitness and so many of you have asked for a Burn Boot Camp Review – so this post will give you guys a little update as to where I am in my fitness journey and also a review of my experience at Burn Boot Camp.
It’s been five months since I started working out at Burn Boot Camp and I wanted to give you guys an update on how my fitness journey is going as well as my Burn Boot Camp review! I’ve mentioned Burn on this blog a few times and if you follow me on social media, you know my love obsession with Burn Boot Camp. It has, quite literally, changed my life. Maybe that sounds dramatic, but it’s true.
(On a side note – I want to let you guys know right off the bat that my Burn Boot Camp South Durham, NC location is currently running a promotion for 30 days for $30. Seriously. Check it out. I think the promotion ends August 31st so hurry and check it out!)
In 32 years, I’ve never felt stronger, healthier, and happier than I do right now. That’s not to say that I haven’t been in better shape before (I have) and that’s not to say that I’m in the best shape of my life (I’m not) and that’s also not to say that I don’t have a long ways to go (I do)… but what I mean is, for the first time in my life, I look forward to working out. I am EXCITED about going to the gym. I get legitimately upset if I can’t go to a camp on a particular day.
WHO AM I?
I even work out when I am traveling now… WHO AM I?!?!?!?!?!!??!!?
What is Burn Boot Camp?
Burn Boot Camp is a high-intensity workout. Each class is 45 minutes and they focus on really maximizing your time there. It follows a standard format of a 5 minute warmup (which is different every camp), a 25-30 minute workout (which is different every camp – NO TWO WORKOUTS ARE EVER THE SAME), and a “finisher” which is a 3-5 minute exercise (or exercises) that are designed to really push you out of your comfort zone and get the most results.
What do Burn Boot Camp workouts “look” like?
Again, every camp is different. While you might do the same exercise you’ve done before in a particular camp, the entire workout will be different. No two camps are alike. There’s a strong focus on a mix of cardio and strength training. I’ve honestly never done anything like Burn Boot Camp in my life. It’s NEVER boring – the workouts go so fast and sometimes I feel like I blink and the workout is done. I love that I never get bored!
Is Burn Boot Camp only for women?
No! BUT, Burn Boot Camp was “designed” for women initially… Burn locations are women-only for the morning camps (times differ at each location), but the evening camps are co-ed. Also, Saturday morning camps typically have a women only camp and a co-ed camp. My husband comes with me on Saturday mornings and he says it’s the best workout of his week… and he is someone who has worked out consistently, multiple days a week, for nearly 20 years.
Also, Burn Boot Camp has FREE CHILDCARE!!!! This is KEY, y’all. KEY. KEYYYYYYY.
What makes Burn Boot Camp different than other gyms or workouts?
Honestly, this is from my experience, but what makes it different for me is a couple of things:
1. The community. This part is so important to me. I have made some amazing friends at Burn Boot Camp. These women cheer me on, we encourage each other, we celebrate our successes, we hold each other accountable, we laugh, we have fun… it truly is AMAZING. I love seeing familiar faces at camps and I look forward to seeing them every day. If I miss a camp, I get messages and texts from women going, “WHERE WERE YOU?!” Also, we have a private Facebook group where we can encourage each other, share healthy recipes, etc. and that community is wonderful!
2. The Focus Meetings. Part of your membership includes focus meetings… and what these are are one-on-one time with the trainer(s). They take your measurements, discuss nutrition, and really help you set and reach your goals. I love this time to ask questions in a safe, judgement-free zone, and get real, tangible advice on how I can improve, grow, and see results. It is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced ANYWHERE.
3. The Unique Workouts. Like I mentioned previously, each workout is different. On Sundays, they release the weekly “protocol” and it has an outline of what you can expect in camp that week. They really are so unique, fun, challenging, and NEVER boring.
Here’s what a weekly protocol usually looks like:
So, how do I feel since starting Burn Boot Camp?
Well, I said it above, but it bears mentioning again… I feel amazing. My goal was *not* to lose weight (as I mentioned back in July), but my goal was to feel healthier, have more energy, and be strong… and I am well on my way to that. I’m learning a lot about myself and my habits and I’m working towards making better choices… but overall, I couldn’t be happier.
Here are some picture updates and I’ll have a numbers breakdown for you below because I think that is honestly most telling…
The left is the week I started attending Burn Boot Camp (March 2017) and the right is a couple of weeks ago (August 2017)
The left is March 2017 and the right is August 2017 (I see a hugeeeee different in my face)
How much I have lost since starting Burn Bootcamp:
I started attending Burn Bootcamp at the end of March… since that time I have:
- Lost 11 pounds of body fat and gained 4 pounds of lean muscle
- Lost 7.5 pounds overall
- Lost 6% body fat
- Lost over 6 inches total
- I reached a personal record of holding a plank for 3 minutes and 15 seconds
- I can do at least 20 pushups on my toes (couldn’t even do one when I started)
- I am consistently modifying workouts to be more difficult in certain areas and I am consistently using heavier weights than when I started
Again, I’m nowhere near where I want to be, but I am so optimistic and I couldn’t be more excited.
I hope this is helpful and I want to thank all of you for reading, encouraging, and supporting me. I have received so many messages from y’all telling me that you see a change in me and that is so encouraging!! So THANK YOU!
