Humble and willing
You guys, I’m serving at church today helping to lead worship. When I pulled into the church parking lot at 6:15am this morning, this was the sky that met me there. It seriously took my breath away. There are mornings when I look up at a sky like this and say a prayer of thanks to a God who is straight up strutting His stuff.
The sermon today was about King David – and how God used David, a totally unlikely boy… teenager, really, to change the course of history. David was the smallest of all his brothers, but God knew that David’s heart was HUMBLE and WILLING. David wasn’t the fastest, or the strongest, or the most handsome – but he was a boy… a man after God’s heart. And God was able to use David to do great things.
It’s my hope and prayer that I can work to have a heart and a soul like David – a heart that doesn’t look at the outside appearances of others, doesn’t concern itself with superficial things – but looks beyond those things, looks at the heart, and runs after the heart of God.
I pray that I’m humble and willing to follow God’s plan.
“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
-1 Samuel 16:7
