If I Were the POTUS… and a birthday!

Unintentionally when I was putting this post together, I suddenly realized that this was a very patriotic looking outfit. Or something. I mean you have the red, white, and blue. And leopard. You know, because every red-blooded American wears leopard. Or something.

This is not going to be a political post, because that’s just not how I roll. However, because it’s #NaBloPoMo, and I’m really trying to re-energize my writing and whatnot, I thought I’d answer today’s prompt:

If you were President of the United States [POTUS], what would be your first act in office?

OKAY, well, I’d paint the White House pink, turn the White House kitchen into a fully functioning Chipotle, have a Diet Coke fountain tap on every floor, and have a sound system running through the West Wing that played a good mix of Dave Matthews Band and Eric Church songs on demand.

I mean, I’m just saying.

Aren’t you glad I’m not running for president?

But in all seriousness, I tried to think and think and think what I would do as my first act in office if I legitimately ran for president. And the truth is, I think that at the end of the day, the president is just one person. A man (or woman) who is imperfect and simply can’t do it all. No one can. It’s quite literally, IMPOSSIBLE for one person to “do it all” and make this country into what each of us want it to be in our hearts and minds. It’s just not that simple. And that’s okay.

So, whether President Obama or Governor Romney win today’s election, the truth is, they are each just one man – men who are both great leaders who are both very smart, but both are very flawed. And when we place too much stock in just one man, we are only going to be disappointed and let down.

I encourage you to respect each other’s differences today (and every day), be civil with one another, and pray for our leaders. Pray for President Obama and pray for Governor Romney – they’re gonna need it. Big time. Now, in the famous words of Forrest Gump – that’s all I have to say about that.

I turn the question over to you: what would YOU do as your first act in office if you were to be elected president?

So yes, today is Election Day. However, today is also my sister’s birthday!

It’s been such a blessing living so close to her these past three years. She’s an AMAZING sister, an even more amazing mother to my nephew, and an even MORE amazing wife to my brother-in-law. She’s one of the most caring and loving people I know. We’ve been through A LOT in our lives, but it’s only brought us closer.

Bridgid, I don’t say it often enough, but you mean the world to me and you’re an amazing sister and I’m so lucky to have you in my life. I love you! Happy Birthday!!

  1. That’s a REALLY tough question! But I completely agree – everyone is flawed and no one person can meet all the expectations that get placed on a position like POTUS.

  3. Happy belated to your sister!! I too am incredibly close with my sister so I can relate. Also, I’m diggin your outfit big time. I couldn’t resist dressing accordingly yesterday since it was election day, so I sported red white and blue shamelessly. I love the polka dot chambray layered under the sweater too!! What you said about the president is so true – at the end of the day he is just one person yet we hold that person to so much and set such high expectations. It truly is impossible for ONE leader to make an ENTIRE country 100% happy. It’s just not feasible! Thanks for your input.

  20. I wore patriotic wear today, too! I think its important for everyone to remember that no matter who wins the presidency today God is in control. He is the one ruling over our world.

  22. This is the perfect patriotic outfit! If you were President, I’d hope you’d let me come visit because an in-house Chipotle and Dave Matthews Band streaming through the sound system sounds pretty darn amazing. 😉

  27. I would be a TERRIBLE president … I have some trouble holding back some strong opinions so I doubt I’d ever be able to work with others to get anything done. Much respect to those who can do it!

  29. Love all the election-themed posts today! I was voted “Most Likely to Become President” in high school, even though I don’t love politics. It makes me laugh because being President would be SUCH a hard job- so many pressures. I guess if I were President, I would definitely work on the issues of the job market, student loan debt and affordable birth control.

    Haha – your first policies / actions in the White House sound delightful. 🙂 I would also be a TERRIBLE president but I like to give my opinion pretty heavily when politics comes into the conversation. My first act would be to cruise around in Air Force One.

    I would be a awful president, way too opinionated and I’d want to lock all of Congress in a dungeon and tell them no one gets to to snack time until some work gets done. Because if you’re going to act like a bunch 1st Graders, then you’ll get treated like a bunch of little kids. No more gummy snacks for them!) It’ll be interesting to see how tomorrow goes, either way I hope all goes well for the country.

    I love this outfit, you do look very patriotic and the leopard print loafers just make it all the better. (So cute! I am so wanting a pair of leopard print loafers. Maybe for Christmas.)

    Sounds like a good first act as POTUS. I mean, you would be in office for at least 4 years, so you’ve gotta make yourself at home. Right? haha
