I am a huge advocate for car seat safety! The topic is no stranger to this blog as I have talked about it ever since Lilly was a baby… You know, I talk about extended rear-facing and the importance of making sure the car seat is installed correctly and safely and that it’s not expired and that you buckle your child in properly and check to make sure the straps are correct and the chest clip is at armpit level and… ALL THE CAR SEAT THINGS!
Well, I have known for a while now that it was time to move Lilly up to a convertible car seat that also converts to a booster. Lilly is 5 years old and also very tall (she’s in a very high percentile for height!) While she was still well within the weight limits of the old convertible car seat we had for her, I knew that she would be growing out of it soon because the harness straps were at the highest point. Height and weight limits aren’t the only indicator of when it’s time to upgrade your child’s car seat because they aren’t a true measure of how the seat will fit… it’s really about the child’s SITTING height. Because, think about it, you can have a child that has a long torso and shorter legs… or vice versa… and a car seat will “fit” very differently on each child.
Even though Lilly is 5, I still want to keep her in a 5-point harness as long as possible. You can NEVER BEEN TOO SAFE in a car, y’all. But I also know that she will grow out of the 5-point harness soon and it will be time to just have her in a high back booster with a regular seat belt… but I wanted to make sure that it would grow with her and last us a few more years.
We ended up getting Lilly the Chicco MyFit® LE Harness+Booster Seat and we’ve been using it for almost a month now and we love it! Not only is it functional and will grow with her, it’s incredibly easy to install – it is designed with smart functionality that makes it the easiest to install simply, accurately, and securely, every time. A four-position “ReclineSure” leveling system and “RideRight” bubble levels help achieve and verify proper angle in the vehicle seat. The seat also has premium LATCH connectors with a SuperCinch tightener and a LockSure belt-tightening system with wide routing make it easy to achieve a tight and secure fit with LATCH or the vehicle seat belt. We are longtime fans of the Chicco brand! Chicco has been manufacturing baby gear for more than 50 years – so we trust their research that goes into every one of their products.
Here is a little video I put together showing how to install it:
The MyFit LE is also designed to keep little big kids comfortable and content with the security of a 5-point harness – as you know – this is extremely important to me! It also comes with a 9-position extended headrest, which you can adjust to ensure the shoulder straps always come out at or above your child’s shoulders, and easily transitions to a belt-positioning booster to accommodate years of growing. It also has a slim and narrow design so if you need to install up to three across in one row in your vehicle, they will fit!
The MyFit LE is available online at ChiccoUSA.com, and on Amazon, Target, buybuyBaby and more, for $249.99. A basic model of the MyFit, offering the same safety and comfort features, is available for $199.99.
