I snagged this splatter print tank at Target a few weeks ago and with my coupon got it for $6! Plus, it’s not actually a “maternity” cardigan, it’s just super stretchy, so it’ll last me past August. Woop! I love a good bargain like that.
If there’s anything I’ve learned over the last 7.5 months of pregnancy, and more importantly, over the last 3 months or so as I’ve really begun to struggle with getting dressed, it’s: WORK WITH YOUR STAPLES.
For those who are early in pregnancy or who ever want to get pregnant one day – let me tell you, if there’s ONE piece of maternity clothing that you invest in… it’s GOOD maternity jeans. Trust me. At the beginning I kept trying to squeeze in to maternity jeans I snagged for $6 or so at a consignment shop and they were awful. Horrendous. Just so uncomfortable. I was stubborn. But then I finally caved, went to Motherhood Maternity, and in an act of desperation asked the sweet sales associate for HELP.
And the second I put on a pair of comfortable, “oh my these actually fit” maternity jeans, my maternity clothing life was changed. Seriously. And I bought two pairs. Best decision EVER.
So, preggo ladies or soon-to-be or one-day-hope-to-be preggo ladies: GET GOOD MATERNITY JEANS.
Then, beyond that, work with STAPLES. Tank tops, cardigans, etc. You don’t have to spend a ton of money on maternity clothes to make your wardrobe work with your changing body.
And as this belly is continuing to grow even larger (I’m starting to wonder if it’s ever going to stop growing… it just keeps getting bigger by the day), I’m learning that working with comfortable staples is as important as ever. In 95+ degree North Carolina humidity, comfort is KEY and the ability to transition from the heat to frigid air conditioning with the toss on or off of a cardigan is SO important.
Just my two cents. 🙂
So, what do you think? Mamas? Preggos? Gals in general?
Your top is so pretty! i love the colors!! and looks at your gorgeous belly 🙂 🙂

You’re good for getting into jeans while being pregnant in the summer! I’m not sure I’ll be able to get out of yoga pants. I think I’m going to have to negotiate with work and all parties I encounter to figure out ways to make yoga pants appropriate.
I agree 100%! I am just into my 2nd trimester and found pants were one of the first things I needed to buy in maternity and once I did I fell in love – comfort is so the way to go! And the best part is so many maternity jeans are actually cute!
that tank top is so cute!! and I agree – I wear the same pair of skinny jeans SO much!!
I think comfort is key even when you’re not pregnant! You look so cute, love that top!

I completely agree! When I was pregnant, the staples of my wardrobe were the easiest things to put together into outfits. Plus, fashion sometimes isn’t your priority in the morning. If you have good staple items, it will be easy to look stylish. And yes yes yes to good maternity jeans!!
I hear ya on the staples when it comes to maternity clothes. I rely on a few tops and bottoms to get me through these last weeks. Although I didn’t buy an expensive pair of maternity jeans, I agree finding a comfortable pair is key. I can’t wear jeans to work so it made more sense to spend money on a good pair of slacks and I lucked out with a great pair of capris I borrowed 🙂
