DIY Créme de la Créme Sweatshirt & #YOLOmondays Link-up!
You guys, when I saw Blair of Atlantic-Pacific rock that fabulous Zoe Karssen Creme de la Creme sweatshirt, I LURVED it. But then I saw the price tag. $160.
That’s $160 American dollars. For a sweatshirt. Now, a fun and pretty fab sweatshirt, but I’m sorry, this guy isn’t gonna shell out $160 for a sweatshirt. I mean, if I’m gonna spend $160 on a sweatshirt, I would hope that it would give me a massage or something while I wear it. I dunno. I mean, I’m just saying.
But THEN, when I saw this fab DIY that Rachael of Shore Society did, I KNEW I needed to try it.
So yeah, I DIYed my own Zoe Karssen Creme de la Creme sweatshirt. For a total for $13.27. BOOM.
Here’s what you need:
- Gray popover sweatshirt of choice
- Transfermations iron-on letters (Purchased at Michael’s, not available online)
- Michael’s iPhone app or Android app for coupons (or print out coupons online)
- Iron
- Scissors
Step one: Get a sweatshirt
Now, I am NOT ashamed to say I found my sweatshirt in the boys section at Wal-mart for… yeah, you can see it… $1! ONE DOLLHAIR.
I was only able to find the similar Zoe Karssen letters at Michael’s. They don’t sell them online. They are the felt iron-on letters. Now, the packs of letters usually run for $9.99 each, but they were on sale, and then with the Michael’s coupons via their app (link above) I was able to get THREE packs of letters for $12.27!
Annoying thing is since you need 5 E’s, you have to get three packs. UGH. Bummer.
Step three: Cut out your letters and place them face down on the sweatshirt
Now, I had to iron for a LONG TIME for them to stick. I kept having to make the iron hotter for them to stick. But I just might be iron-challenged.
Step five: Let cool… then REMOVE backing!
Once you’re done ironing, let it cool for a WHILE… like a few hours or something before you take the backing off. I went and had dinner and came back and it was ready.
Yeah, so I know that I’m no Blair, but hey, I love the way I turned out! Eh?

So what do you think? Would you spend the $160 on the real thing or try a little DIY action?

- Have fun! Cause #YOLO!
Such a cute DIY. You look great in it!
Girl…u better werk!
thanks, a dub!
Hi there
I love what you have done. Very clever.
Would you mind telling me how much each letter measures in height?
I need to buy my letters online so I can’t work out what size they would need to be to fit on a sweatshirt. That would really help me out as I can’t buy the ones you used. I love the sweatshirt but my budget doesn’t run to that much for a top!.
Thank you.
thank you so much, sara!! each letter is 2″ in height! 🙂
Girrrrrl – this is straight up amazeballs! I can’t wait to DIY – I’ve been looking for any easy tutorial with instructions so THANK YOU for providing! 🙂

yayyyyy! can’t wait to see your re-creation!
Hi Molly, I was in fact planning to buy the Zoe Karssen sweatshirt worn by Blair and found you, thanks to google ! I think you’re post is funny and I love the way you DYIed your sweat. You did a great job ! I just did a DIY and made an awsome pair of gold boots (which I MUST blog about this week!), so I get where you are coming from. However, for the sweat I think I’ll go for the original, I have tried this brand and the cotton is extra-soft and I need the extra comfort 😉 xx
thank you SO MUCH, marta!!! you are seriously so sweet. i haven’t seen the real thing in person and definitely wish i could see it! i bet it is so soft!!
Molly, you are absolutely brilliant! I love this DIY and it came out so, so well! Hope you had a great, long weekend friend!

Awesome DIY! I don’t usually like tops with lettering/logos but there is something about the Zoe Karssen sweatshirt that is so chic! (But totally not worth $160!) Your sweater is much cooler!
~Jessica
thank you SO MUCH, jessica! i am the same way – i am usually not a “graphic tee” person but i loved this so much!
I do this all the time with shirts, but I’ve never tried it with a sweatshirt. Love your version Molly!
thank you so much, rachel!
Hey, girl! I think it turned out great, although how the skittles you are wearing not only a sweatshirt but a layer underneath is boggling the mind! 😉 Is is cool where you are? Cause it is definitely not around these parts! 😉
And really? $160 for a sweatshirt! Crazy!
thank you SO much, cc!! hahaha it is NOT cool here… i promptly removed the sweatshirt after taking the pics. LOL!
Great job on this Molly – this look so awesome, and seriously for under $15, everyone should do this!

Such a cute look and idea! No way would I spend that much on a sweatshirt either — that kind of price tag is for things like nice overcoats or tall boots. 🙂

hehehehe i sure did! thank you so much, sarah!!!
oh wow!! that is awesome! seriously! well done you. and just think, you could pretty much have anything on there. I saw Rachel of Smile and Wave recently did a sign that said Oh My Darlin’, that would look cute i reckon! Totally inspired and want to give this a go. You look adorable in it by the way, and the hairband is so so pretty xxx
MOLLY. THIS IS AMAZING. I’d never seen this sweatshirt before, but I’ve been drooling over the kate spade “Joie de vive” sweatshirt for a while, and now, I’m inspired. Did Michaels have any iron ons in different fonts?
I love this!! Awesome job on the sweatshirt and these pictures of you are so dang cute!!
